"Pray for Anita"- Pastor Chris Oyakhilome addresses divorce rumours during Church Service

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome finally addressed the divorce sage during communion service in his Church yesterday.
He said
“I heard that some media houses – especially in Nigeria – are writing some things against me. All sorts of frivolous charges, that’s crazy. You have to understand something about a man of God. A man of God is not just someone who worships God or preaches God. A man of God is handpicked by God, set on course by God. If you study the scriptures, you will not find one man of God go against God, sinning against God.
The only things you might find will be a man of God, maybe in two different kinds of ways. Moses, for example; when he
struck the rock twice, [he] was provoked by the anger of the people. [It was] not because he wanted to do something against the Lord. No man of God does something against the Lord.“Are you hearing me? A man of God is set on a course; there is a type of life that he is given. Then you have a young man, a young prophet; he wasn’t named; he was deceived by another man of God and so he went in a direction that God said ‘don’t go’.

“That is the only kind of thing you find about a man of God when he misses the message of God or he acts beyond what God said. But a man of God settles himself in the fight against the world… like those writing those stupid things about me, that I did this and I did that.
You don’t know who a man of God is. I don’t go in that direction. I wasn’t accused of the things you said, nor did I commit those stupid things that you said and I don’t need to go into that level in such discussions.

He recalled that Jesus passed through similar travails and eventually overcame. He said that although so many people were making mockery of him, he would remain steadfast and not lose focus.
Jesus Christ was accused by many – a lot of frivolous charges. There will always be those who would like for it to be true. But you know, in spite of the accusations against Jesus, It didn’t change who he was. It didn’t change him.
“There are preachers and there are men of God. I am not a preacher; I am a man of God and I go in the way I’m asked to go. It may cause some troubles with individuals but that’s not because I have done something wrong and when it comes to Reverend Anita, what I will say to you is ‘pray for her’.
“Don’t act like those people. If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature. You can make mistakes; you can do something that is wrong. But some people expect the wife of a minister to definitely be at the level of that minister and so they may be looked upon and the expectation may be like that, but it’s a positional thing. “If a man of God is married, it doesn’t automatically mean that the wife of a man of God is therefore a woman of God. That’s not the way it is in the Bible. That’s why you don’t really find the wives of men of God mentioned in the Bible. How many of them? Who was Peter’s wife, did you ever know her name? You never find that out. Who was John’s wife? Did you ever read the name? What about all the other Apostles? How many of their names are written in the Bible. You never find their names.”

  9. For his wife to go for divorce, means he has pushed her to the wall.He should now not try to sound sarcastic towards her l.like *" please pray for my wife"..or women married to men of God are not actually women of God.rubbish.

  10. One major problems about African leaders is that they always exempt themselves from responsibility. How will you equate yourself with Moses or Paul. They were never extravagant or materialistic. They were apostles with valour. When you mix pastoral activities with secular lifestyles in the name of modernization, this is what you get. Ordinarily, how do you expect a distance relationship to work? Your wife is not a Nigerian and trust the whites, divorce is as cheap as sachet water. I pray for restoration but as a man of God, it will not cost you anything to tell your people what you are going through. Immunity clause that has made political leaders so useless should not be applicable to men of God. Even if you are called by God as you claimed, you are still accountable to the people because without them, you cannot pastors chairs.

  11. I'm baffled! He is not listening to his wife's cry with the heart rather he is busy analysing the whole matter theologically. MOG, your wife needs you! Take time off work and try to sort ur personal issues off the pulpit. Instead of praying for "Reverend Anita" ask the church to pray for you because you are not above mistake. He never even referred to her as "my wife" only with the distant title of " Reverend Anita". How sad! Many times those who think they know, know absolutely NOTHING!

  14. His speech sounds so arrogant and pompous and that just shows that the wife wasn't lying when she made accusations about him.

    1. Exactly, he sounds so arrogant and mean, as if the wife is his servant or doesn't qualify to be a woman of God. With this ideology i believe the wife must have suffered so much from this heavenly appointed ''man of God''.

  22. if she is not a woman of God then why did he call her Rev. Anita? Are Reverends not Men/Women of God? Whats the difference between a man of God and a Reverend? I rather say pray for Nigerians cos we may have been brain washed by some false prophets(N//B am not referring to Pastor Chris as a false prophet but am talking in General terms)...2nd peter 2:1-3

  26. I had a lot of respect for pastor Chris but truth be told,i have lost all the respect in just one week.I listened to one of his sermons and he was glaringly putting women down.yes he didn't make mention of Rev.Anita but if you are sharp you can notice the Innuendos.mmmm..i kept mute.i wasn't yet sure what to think, but he came across as very arrogant and like some1 who didn't care atall whether she stayed or left. Then I just read this now.i can finally say that I feel so much pity for Rev.Anita.If u read this very well then you can recognize that she must have gone through so much.its obvious in this speech. No remorse at all from him, rather he is putting her down, chai! That woman must have gone thru so much emotion and psychological trauma,it may or may not have been infidelity, but mmmm some Emotional abuse sef is worse that infidelity.and I thank God that "Man is not God" if not we commons wld be in deep trouble.read how he equates himself with our Jesus! .SMH...that's what money and power causes.they have started to see themselves as gods.and scare the congregation with " touch not my annoited " mmmmm..my dears,do not fear,go and read ur bible well and understand the context under which God made that statement and also understand who we are as children of the most high then u wld understand that as believers and doers of his word,we are all heirs in the kingdom.and that pastors are as human as the rest of us.but are pple who understand the word and spend time in understanding and teaching the rest, but still human...anyways long Epistle cut short...I amd disappointed in the way pastor Chris's words are being used to degrade his wife of decades.he is more than that,or so I thot...but then I remembered,he is human afterall,a man for that matter..A nigerian man at that...but I expected better....Thank God man no be god....

  28. What the heck? This man is such a proud fake pastor. He didn't even call her his wife bit reverend and he just indirectly insult her. Yuck

  29. Most people commenting on this beautiful blog has never been married and won't understand what the couple might be going through. So before you criticize, condemn and insult any of the parties which Nigerians are quick to do...try to get yourself a husband or wife ,and after one year come back and comment then your comment would be different. It is their life, they should live the way it deem fit and bring happiness to them...marriage is not a death sentence or prison, if they are not happy together due to one or more reasons....the only logical thing is to go their separate ways. Happiness is key to the soul...and when your soul isn't happy, you start dying. JUDGE NOT!! CONDEMN NOT!!! NIGERIAN.

  30. We should be careful what you say about someone God has called(Romans 14 :4). I hear a lot of fuzz against "Men of God" but what I actually see is simply fuzz against God because God that called these people knew their errors & mistakes but still chose them. David, Abraham, Moses, Peter, Paul etc... one thing they had in common irrespective of their errors was their love for God. God is the ultimate judge so stop speaking against God indirectly. And also btw Jesus wants us to do greater things(John 14:12) than He did as we are made in His likeness (Genesis 1:26-to function like him) (other references Numbers, Ps 138:2).
